ELIZABETH HIRD

My work is deeply influenced by my personal experiences. Before completing my Master of Fine Arts from the San Francisco Art Institute, I worked and studied as a wildlife biologist and those years sparked and shaped my creative expression as an artist. I have worked in many mediums and styles, but most recently, I have been inspired by my move to the island of Maui in early 2018.

Each day I go to the ocean to take footage and photos of sea turtles, manta rays, dolphins, humpback whales, and other sea life. I feel extraordinarily lucky to have the good fortune to witness the majesty and brilliance of the ocean and it’s creatures, and to then have the joy of creating paintings where I hope to transmit the beauty of the beings that dwell there.
